Privacy Policy
In short: EventHall is a directory that connects clients with event professionals in Nigeria. We collect the information you give us when you sign up, list a business, or contact us, along with basic usage data, so we can run the directory, verify listings, and keep the platform safe. We do not sell your personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDPA).
01Who we are
EventHall ("EventHall," "we," "us," or "our") operates the directory platform at eventhall.com.ng (the "Platform"), registered in Nigeria under RC 3144143. EventHall helps clients discover event professionals — planners, venues, caterers, photographers, DJs, decorators, and more — and helps those professionals list and grow their businesses online.
For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, EventHall is the data controller for personal data processed through the Platform, unless stated otherwise below.
02Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: what you give us directly, what we collect automatically, and what we receive from third parties.
a) Information you give us
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account details | First and last name, email address, phone number, password (stored encrypted) |
| Business listing details | Business name, category, years in business, country/state/city, business address, website URL, business description, services offered, price range, social media links |
| Media uploads | Business logo/profile picture, portfolio photos, profile video (via direct upload, YouTube link, or video URL) |
| Communications | Messages you send us or that clients send you through the Platform, support requests, review or complaint content |
| Payment information | Billing details for paid plans, processed by our third-party payment processor — we do not store full card numbers on our own servers |
b) Information collected automatically
- Device and log data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages viewed, referring page, and timestamps
- Usage data: searches performed, filters used, listings viewed or contacted, and general interaction with the Platform
- Cookies and similar technologies, described in Section 6
c) Information from third parties
- If you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider, as permitted by your settings with them
- Basic verification information where a listed business is checked against public business or contact records
03How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and business listing
- Display your listing, photos, and video to people searching the directory
- Verify business details and award verified badges
- Operate messaging between clients and listed businesses
- Process payments and manage subscription plans
- Send service messages (confirmations, listing status, password resets, review notifications)
- Send optional marketing or product updates, where you haven't opted out
- Monitor, secure, and improve the Platform, including fraud and abuse prevention
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service
04Our legal basis for processing
Under the NDPA, we rely on one or more of the following bases depending on the activity: your consent (e.g., marketing emails, optional profile videos), the need to perform our contract with you (e.g., running your listing, processing payment for a paid plan), our legitimate interests (e.g., keeping the Platform secure and improving our services), and compliance with a legal obligation (e.g., responding to a lawful request from a regulator).
05Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Publicly, on your listing: if you list a business, your business name, category, location, description, services, price range, photos, video, and social links are shown publicly to anyone browsing the directory, by design
- With service providers: hosting and cloud storage providers, payment processors, email/SMS delivery providers, and analytics providers, each bound to only use data to provide services to us
- With other users: when a client contacts a business (or vice versa) through the Platform's messaging feature
- For legal reasons: where required to comply with Nigerian law, respond to a court order, or protect the rights, property, or safety of EventHall, our users, or the public
- Business transfers: if EventHall is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy
06Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as search filters), and understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect features like staying signed in.
07How long we keep data
We keep personal data for as long as your account or listing is active, plus a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, dispute-resolution, or security needs. When you delete your account or request deletion (see our data deletion page), we remove or anonymize your personal data, except where we're required or permitted to retain it — for example, transaction records for tax purposes, or data needed to investigate a reported abuse of the Platform.
08How we protect your data
We use technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encryption of passwords, restricted access to production systems, and secure transmission (HTTPS) for data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
09Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data — most listing and profile details can be edited directly in your account
- Delete your personal data, subject to the exceptions in Section 7 — see our data deletion page for how
- Object to or restrict certain processing, including marketing communications
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
- Data portability, where technically feasible, to receive a copy of your data in a structured format
- Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your data has been mishandled
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 13. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
10Children's privacy
The Platform is intended for business owners and adults planning events. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
11International data transfers
Some of our service providers (such as cloud hosting or analytics tools) may process data outside Nigeria. Where this happens, we take steps required under the NDPA to ensure the data is protected to a standard comparable to Nigerian law, such as using providers with appropriate safeguards or contractual protections in place.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. We'll post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date, and where changes are significant, we'll take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by email or a notice on the Platform.
